Post-graduate associate
We are hiring a postgraduate research associate for our lab at Yale University in the Department of Psychiatry. The lab (https://www.kayelab.com/) focuses on systems neuroscience approaches to anxiety. We record and manipulate neurons to try to understand the basis of our emotional states and how they can become maladaptive in PTSD and related disorders.
Previous people in this position had just finished their undergraduate degree, and came to the lab for 2 years before going to top PhD and MD/PhD programs. The ideal candidate would be someone with a deep passion for neuroscience, organized, and a great colleague. There are opportunities for publications and technical development. Some techniques we use are:
1. Fiber photometry/optogenetics, particularly in neuromodulatory (norepinephrine) systems
2. Two-photon imaging
3. Neuropixels electrophysiology
4. Behavior tracking and reinforcement learning modeling
5. Innate and learned behaviors related to negative emotional states
6. Data analysis of neural activity patterns
Responsibilities: We will ask you to contribute to ongoing projects including by collecting and analyzing neural and behavioral data. There are also organizational duties which will be a component but not the main aspect of your work. There are opportunities for independent and highly motivated people to grow and lead work and to develop intellectually through this position.
